Studiare il passato per comprendere il presente! I nostri studenti del terzo anno del Liceo Scientifico hanno svolto una interessante attività di gruppo sulle Crociate. Rigorosamente in Lingua Inglese sotto l'attenta supervisione della Prof. Ssa Woodward!
The Crusades, a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims, during the medieval period, had the aim of securing control of holy sites considered sacred by both groups. As an introduction to the historical crusading movement, we presented a thought-provoking challenge to our third year scientific high school students. In small groups, they exercised their English skills by working orally to tackle the task of piecing together a text on the topic. Through this task, students were able to establish a timeline for the First and Second Crusades as well as identify the causes and motivations and explain some of their positive and negative results.
Scientists make claims all the time, but how do we know whether to trust these claims? This
is where CER comes into play. This system for verifying claims represents three main parts
of an argument, the claim (C) or in other words a one sentence answer to a research question,
evidence (E) measurements or observations that support the claim, and reasoning (R) an
explanation of why the evidence supports the claim.
Our first- and second-year Scientific High School students took on the task of reading a real
scientific article about bee stings and applying their knowledge of how to identify CER and
apply this method in order to verify validity of the claim in the article.
Come sapere se un'affermazione scientifica è vera oppure no? La risposta è nel metodo CER,
acronimo di Claim=affermazione, Evidence=prova e Reasoning=dimostrazione.
I nostri ragazzi della Prima e della Seconda classe del Liceo Scientifico hanno applicato tale
metodo per verificare la validità delle affermazioni contenute in un articolo scientifico sulle
punture d’ape!
C14 has been used to date everything from the remains of King Richard III to those of King
Tutankhamun. Our fifth year Scientific High School students modelled the radioactive decay process for
C14 using a popular snack! This lab helped solidify the following concepts: The randomness
of radioactive decay, the concept of half-life and the exponential nature of radioactive decay.
Through this interactive lab our students were able to visualize these concepts and better
understand how they are applied to the dating of artefacts.
Il Carbonio-14 (C14) è stato utilizzato per datare molte cose, dalle spoglie del Re Riccardo a
quelle del re Tutankhamon. I nostri studenti del Quinto anno del Liceo Scientifico hanno
raccolto dati ed elaborato il grafico del decadimento radioattivo del C14 utilizzando famose
palline al cioccolato! Questo laboratorio ha contribuito a consolidare i seguenti concetti: la
casualità del decadimento radioattivo, il concetto di emivita e la natura esponenziale del
decadimento radioattivo!

1. Dal 31 agosto al 5 settembre compresi, l’Economato resterà chiuso per aggiornamento istituzionali con i Formatori, i Docenti e i Collaboratori.
2. Il diario con i foglietti per le giustificazioni sarà regalato agli Alunni dalla classe 1^ della Scuola Secondaria di 1° grado, agli Studenti dei Bienni dei Licei. Sarà un documento da conservare con cura e da portare sempre nello zaino per eventuali giustificazioni o comunicazioni.
3. Per gli Studenti dei trienni il primo giorno di lezione sarà consegnato il libretto delle giustificazioni.
4. Agli attaccapanni della Scuola Secondaria di 1° e 2° grado e a quelli della palestra sono rimasti appesi: K-Wayü Giacche (1 ha ancora il tagliando di acquisto); Magliette, felpe, sciarpe, giacche della tuta da ginnastica; Pantaloncini e pantaloni neri. Conserveremo tutto fino al 13 settembre e poi doneremo.
